Brain and Memory

“Brain food” is a term commonly used to describe a food that may help increase alertness and concentration. Because of this, diet and lifestyle can have a significant impact on brain function and memory. Simple measures you can take to support brain function include:
  • Eat more “smart” foods as these may help increase chances of maintaining a healthy brain. Examples are blueberries, avocados, wholegrain breads and cereals and nuts and seeds.1
  • Include foods rich in omega‐3 fatty acids such as salmon, tuna and sardines.2 Omega‐3 may help to maintain healthy brain function including concentration and memory.
  • Reduce intake of saturated fats. Instead choose unsaturated types such as olive and canola oils.2
  • Include moderate exercise to your daily routine. It helps boost brain function by reducing stress and improving overall health.3
  • Ensure you get enough sleep. Sleep is essential to reduce levels of stress hormones and to relax and refresh your body and mind.3
  • Avoid smoking and only drink alcohol in moderation.2
  • Take a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement as nutritional insurance to meet your body’s nutrient needs. This may help reduce the risk of many health problems including fatigue, lowered immunity and impaired cognitive function.4
