Children’s Health

Children need a wide variety of foods for a well balanced diet and enough physical exercise to keep healthy. It is important that children begin applying a healthy approach to diet and lifestyle from an early age so it stays with them throughout their life.
  • Encourage eating a healthy breakfast every morning. A good night’s sleep followed by food in the morning helps your child to stay active and concentrate at school.1
  • Include fruit and vegetables with most meals and snacks. They provide important nutrients such as vitamin C and folic acid.2 If parents eat fruit and vegetables every day, children will normally follow their example.
  • Ensure that they are getting enough calcium from milk and dairy products, and dark green leafy vegetables. Calcium is important for building strong bones and teeth.3
  • Offer water or milk instead of fruit juices and other sugary drinks. Fruit juices may be a good source of vitamins but high in sugar and low in fiber.2
  • Children benefit from exercise just as much as adults do. It is beneficial for the heart as well as making the muscles and bones stronger.4
  • Take a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement as nutritional insurance to meet your body’s nutrient needs. This may help reduce the risk of many health problems including fatigue, lowered immunity and impaired cognitive function.5
