Eating a well balanced diet and making healthy lifestyle choices are essential for weight control. A few tips are:

  • Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits. They are high in fiber and water and are low in calories.1
  • Include healthy protein sources from lean cuts of meats and fish. When eating turkey and chicken ensure that the skin is removed. Legumes such as lentils, beans and chickpeas are also good sources of protein.1
  • Choose wholegrain based breads and cereals instead of refined products like white bread and white rice. Refined products are depleted of fiber, iron and many B vitamins. Wholegrain products are a healthy choice.1
  • Include low fat or fat free dairy products.1
  • Avoid foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt such as soft drinks, chips and lollies.2
  • Avoid skipping meals. Not eating for long period of time will cause you to be hungrier and overeat during next meal.2
  • Get plenty of exercise. It helps burn fat and increases metabolism. This can include doing any moderate activity of about 30 minutes everyday.2
  • Add strength training to your exercise routine. Building up muscle helps burn more energy and therefore increases metabolism.3
  • Take a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement as nutritional insurance to meet your body’s nutrient needs. This may help reduce the risk of many health problems including fatigue, lowered immunity and impaired cognitive function.4
